Sunday Funday: Americano.

Happy Sunday Funday everyone!
(I know, tear-tear-tommorrow is Monday)

As I’m about to fly back to Faytown, I’m sitting here wondering what my favorite trend is currently. Well the answer is obviously super simple-White Converse!!!

You probably are thinking-umm that’s not really a trend, more like a classic! Well you’re right!!! Converse are defiantly a classic FO SHO.

Before I go into my sneaks story, I thought I’d give ya a little background on the Americano classic Converse!

So I’m sure you all know that Converse started out to be a basketball shoe! Marquis Mills Converse created the shoe, and not only did they make kicks-but tires too!

Image

In 1918, Chuck Taylor joined the company. He brought the All Star Converse into the picture.

Image

In 1948, ROCK&ROLL was born. So was the trend of leather jackets, jeans and hightop sneaks. In 1958 Converse finally started making colors! From then on Converse has basically been a classic-from the basketball court to rock and rollers to hipsters to high-class fashionistas. They really are the perfect shoe.

Now, back to why I love them! As I just said-they really are the perfect sneak. Of course white converse are perfection, but really ANY colors are great! (I also have a red pair that practically go with anything)
ALSO, they’re SUPER comfy, so DUH everyone loves them. And for the white ones-read, white & blue-I mean how American can we get??LOVE! So now that I’ve shared to you WHY I love them, of course I’ve got to show some rad outfits. Now keep in mind-Converse literally can be worn with ANYTHAAAG. Shorts, skirts, jeans, dresses-whatever.

And of course how I wore my sneaks this weekend at the Rangers game with my boy….

Happy Wednesday pretty ladies!
Now, before you stop reading this (college girls)-at the bottom of this post I have things about short dresses that are for spring formals! So don’t run away just yet…

Now, as I was saying.
It’s almost PROM season! My favorite time of the year-the weather is just right, the birds are out singing, the flowers are blooming, baby animals are everywhere-you get the picture. It’s basically the BEST time of the year! And although I am not attending any prom this spring (or sadly my sorority’s formal(due to a family event!)) I would LOVE to share my insights on prom dress styling and formal(short prom dress) styling!
So, I know everyone has their own style, so OBVI I’m going to give a few different looks to accommodate everyone’s different(awesome!) styles!

So first things first: Long prom dresses!
I’ve always been a lover of long prom dresses myself, wether it be a grecian goddess gown or a mermaid style or a ball gown-they’re all just so fab. In today’s post about prom, I’m going to explain how to style a certain dress (jewelry, clutches etc.), give suggestions on hair styles and of course SHOES! (and I might even suggest some flowers that match perfectly too…)

So the first style I’d love to share with you all is the:

Glamour Queen
This girl LOVES to dress super fabulous all the time, loves to be thought of as royalty, and is always super put together. Oh, and did I mention that she loves glitter and everything that sparkles? So for this gal, I picked out a stunning lilac Sherri Hill, complete with super glam details.

Image

Since this dress has tons of pretty jewels and such on the bodice, there’s no need to a necklace. Simply add some pretty earrings, chandelier earrings would go perfectly. (like these from anthropologie!)

Image

And of course a girl needs shoes! Since this dress is a mermaid style, walking might be a bit difficult (trust me-I would know! My senior prom dress was a mermaid..) So maybe go with some cute flats since your shoes won’t even be seen! Like these, from Steve Madden.

Image

Now, since the dress is pretty detailed and chandelier earrings are always a statement, there’s no need for any bracelets. Just your flower corsage! For a hairstyle, either really relaxed loose waves or a messy undo would be great! (personally, I would go with loose waves since I’ve never been a fan of updos for prom!) But here’s some examples of what I mean!

ImageImage

Last but now least-flowers that would match perfect would be either yellow flowers (iris’ would be SO perfect for this dress)

Image

or white lilies!

Image

The next prom style I’d like to share is the

Gypsy Goddess
I think if I were to go to prom again, this is definitely what my style would be, no doubt. This girl is carefree with the world, and just loves to dress basically bohemian! Loose clothing, fun colors, fringe-etc. Here’s the dress I think that would be oh-so-perfect for this girl, from Free People-

Image

First of all-this has GOT to be the most gorgeous dress EVER!!! The lace is literally so pretty I can’t even handle it. Ok, moving on. For this look, I’ve always thought turquoise and white were a match made in heaven, so naturally some great turquoise jewelry. These literally are SO great, I might have to order them just because. (from Maxandchloe.com)

Image

Then for extra oomph, you could add some layered bracelets(I do this every day, it just adds character and interest to any outfit!) Probably not this extreme, but you get the gyst.

Image

Hair for a Gypsy Goddess has GOT to be just plain pretty-braids braids braids are definitely in order. For the first hairstyle, I would definitely add some textured waves.

 ImageImageImage

Lastly is shoes-a gypsy girl is usually in flats, so I thought some simple/unique flats would do the trick. I LOVE these from Free People-

Image

Ok, now lets talk flowers. Since gypsys are known for their love of flowers and such, why not add some flowers to your hair? Put them in your braid! Of course if you wanted to keep a corsage since it’s a prom tradition, do so! Just add some flowers to your braid. Flowers I think that would go absolutely perfect with this dress are daisies! Colored or white, they go perfect. Done!

The next long prom dress look would be:

The Different Darling
This girl is very confident and wants to always stand out! This girl’s style might also change depending on how she’s feeling that day-goth, girly, hipster-anything is possible! For this look thought, I went with something a little more dark, for those days that you want to look pretty but wear dark. Another dress from Free People-which is ANYTHING but boring black

Image

This dress is literally so unique, I’m sure just like the girls that would wear it! First  wanted to talk about makeup with this dress-dark red lipstick. a MUST for this lavish lady. Also a pretty/dramatic cateye would be fun and eye catching! For jewelry, bigger-is-better is the way to go my dears. So this first necklace is a little crazy, but I think it would look SO great with this dress! I included 2 though just for fines-the first is from Anthropologie and the second from Nasty Gal

ImageImage

Now flowers for this dress are tricky. I think since dark red lips are a must-dark red roses are a must as well. Since it is spring though and we don’t want you looking like you’re super gloomy for prom, add some color into a corsage or flowers! (yellows, oranges, blues!)

For hair-think that the dress, your face and your necklace are the most important duds-so lets get that mane out of the way with a pretty updo! any of these would be great!

Image

For shoes-make them fun! A fun, romantic sandal would work best with this dress. I love these from Anthropologie with the touch of brown leather, black and snakeskin. Perfection!

Image

Now, for my shorties! Let’s talk short dresses.
Who doesn’t love a good short dress? I can’t think of anyone. Here are my fav looks with short dresses!

This first look is a dress from Nastygal.com, and I just love it SO much! The color is absolutely PERFECT for a spring formal/prom. I think the best way to wear this dress style (A-line) is with a statement necklace. I actually really love how Nasty Gal styled this dress with a see-through necklace so that the lace on the dress is the main focus!

Image

Here’s another necklace option, also from NastyGal.com-now, it is a little crazy but I just LOVE it!

Image

Hair for this dress should for sure be kept simple. Waves, or even long straight hair with some volume would look great. For shoes, pretty sandals or heels would be good, like these by Vince Camuto at Dillards>>>

Image

Another short dress I love this season is this long sleeved number from Sherri Hill

Image

This dress is just SO gorgeous! Although it is long sleeved, I think the color and the detailing is perfect for spring functions! For accessories, honestly less is more. Maybe some simple stud earrings and a few simple dainty rings. For hair-definitly up. First of all, when you’re dancing, no one wants their hair being ripped out by their dress! (trust me-been there, done that!) AND by putting it up, your dress and your pretty face can be what the focus is on! For shoes, something nude or silver. Pumps for sure!

I really love these classic pointed heels for this dress because A) they’re nude and B) they have a silver heel-holla! (from Steve Madden)

Image

The last look I’d love to share is loose, simple and flowy dresses. These are really the easiest to wear and the easiest to style! They look good on literally everyone, and they’re not uncomfortable at all! Here’s one of my favorites from Elizabeth and James, at Shopbop.com.

Image

Not only do I love the color of this dress, I just love everything about it!! For jewelry, I’d go with pretty jewelry. Sparkles are a girls best friend! This necklace from Urban Outfitters is perfect for this dress. A hint of sparkle and mint, mwah!

Image

For hair, pretty is all I have to say! You know I’m going to say loose waves, but also a half-up do would look great!

 Image

Shoes for this look can basically be anything. I’ve included 2 of my fans-the first ones are from Stevemadden.com and the second are from Urbanoutfitters.com

Those are all the prom looks I wanted to share! Some few last thoughts/tips:

  • if you wear a sandle/heel with an ankle strap with a short dress-this WILL make your legs look a tad larger/shorter than they really are! Just something to keep in mind, since the strap seemingly “cuts” your leg off!
  • if you’re wearing statement earrings(meaning big or semi-big earrings) PLEASE don’t wear a matching necklace! This trend is from the 90’s and isn’t to be repeated. Just have your focus be on one jewelry item! If you’re wearing super big earrings-absolotly no necklace or bracelets. If the earrings aren’t TOO big, still no necklace, but a few bracelets may be ok!
  • if you literally can’t walk in the shoes you want to buy, SERIOUSLY don’t buy them. I can promise you that every super high heel I’ve bought for an event was worn for about 30 min, and then never again!
  • If you are wearing heels-always take extra shoes to dance in! I really don’t think you should ignore this tip-no matter how low/high your heels are, you will want to take them off. My senior year I brought silver glitter vans to dance in! They matched my dress AND were still cute. Toms would also work, anything that’s comfy!
  • pack a little clutch full of-oil blotters, lipchap, lipgloss, mini hairspray, bobbie pins, tampons(hey, you never know!) bandaids (those blisters will get ya!(a tip from the roommate)), powder, body spray (not the nasty cheap-kind), a mini brush and a mini deodorant!

Ok, I promise that that’s it! And lastly, I wanted to show you all some pics from my Senior & Junior prom, and some formal’s I’ve attended! Also, I put in some pics of gals that I thought looked SO fab and styled their dress perfectly! Enjoy!

Coconuts for coconut oil.

Happy April 1st!

(clever title, aye?)

I hope everyone is having a great first day of April, hopefully not filled with TOO many bad pranks (the prank on my boyfriend is in the process, I’ll give more deets later if it’s successful!)

Today I wanted to focus on one of my latest secrets in the beauty/cooking world. Now, could this secret really be possible-used for both beauty and food? The answer is YEESSSSS-girls(and guys too!), meet my good friend Coconut Oil!
Now, you’ve probably seen CO all over pinterest, and the benefits..blahblahblah. BUT, has anyone you know ever actually tried it? Well my friends-I have!

Image

First thought let me tell you-ONLY buy organic Coconut Oil if you’re going to be using it on your body, because no one wants nasty un-known ingredients on their precious face.

So let me just tell you what all I use CO for…

Body moisturizer(in place of lotion), face mousturizer(ever other time), and in place of butter(for cooking and potatoes), and hair nurturing.

BUT there are SOOO many other uses for CO! Here are some that I’ve found:

  • ant-inflamatory
  • to get rid of birth marks
  • body scrub(mis with raw sugar)
  • bug bites
  • burns/bruises
  • face wash(mixed with baking soda)
  • makeup remover

for more uses(actually 160 of them!) check out this website

Now, you’re probably wondering why the blank you should put an oil on your face-let me tell you.

If you find your skin still dry after a few minutes from putting on moisturizer, it’s because your skin isn’t fully absorbing the lotion. This goes for your face and body. Coconut oil however actually goes INTO your skin and gets absorbed, so it really does nourish and moisturize your skin.

Another remedy that CO is good for is your hair! I know I know-oil on your hair IS pretty nasty sounding but trust me-it works wonders! The other night I was feeling like my hair was a tad dry, and so I put some CO on it! I massaged it into my scalp and put it on the ends(do NOT put on the rest of your hair unless it is REALLY dry) then put your hair in a bun with a bobby pin(maybe add a shower cap to sleep in so oil doesn’t get everywhere!) and voila! I slept in mine and washed it out the next morning. I put a little TOO much oil in my hair so it took literally 4 shampoo washes to get it all out, but afterwards my hair was SO lush! Here;s a tip-scoop out a spoonful and use 1/4 of that(I have long fine hair, so this will vary for different hair types) and also-do this on dirty hair(mine hadn’t been washed in 3 days…)  That’s basically it!

One last tip for first time coconut oil users-do NOT try to overcompensate. By this I mean don’t use a lot-I literally couldn’t be more serious when I say less is more. Reminder-this is OIL, so it goes a LONG LONG way! Especially for your skin! (I like to pinch a bit out and rub it in my hands-it turns into oil SO fast and I always realize that I have just enough!)

Here’s some great links if you want to whip up some more CO creations: (just click the pics!)
