About this weekend// Part One

This weekend I’m was back in my (adopted) stomping grounds, and could’t have been more excited!! Over the last few days, I had the I N C R E D I B L E opportunity to attend Cosmopolitan magazine’s inaugural Fun Fearless Life weekend event! Which let me tell you-was one of the best things I’ve done for myself in, uh, forever. So since it’s a lot to take in, I’ll go slow and start with Friday.

So first off, I’ll explain to you what Cosmo’s Fun Fearless Life is all about, and why you should totally go next year (should I be advertising for them, or what?). As you probably know, Cosmo magazine is, in a nutshell, all about women empowering women, and having fun doing it. In a bigger and better way of explaining it, this event is Cosmo’s way of sharing their knowledge of other women’s acheivments and the great things they’ve come to know, and they are SO wonderful to share this knowledge with others. The event also isn’t centered around one subject-it’s got fashion figures, business women, models, TV personalities, and basically every other kind of woman you can think about it that is successful. Chrissy Teigen, Kelly Osbourne, Sarah Blakely (founder of Spanx), Shay Mitchell, Sophia Amoruso (founder/CEO of Nasty Gal), Jordan Carlos (from GirlCode), Dick Costolo (CEO of Twitter), Aya Kanai (Fashion Director at Cosmo), and Jillian Michaels to name just a few. So get what I’m saying, it’s the coolest thing ever right? The answer is abso-f*ing-lutely (said with true Cosmo sass).

Back to Friday. I woke up in high hopes of what the day was set to bring, but I honestly couldn’t have prepared myself for what was to come. I was to have lunch with Donna Lagani, SVP/Publishing Director, and Jenifer Geller, Executive Beauty Director, which as you can imagine was literally a dream. I was able to gain advice on how to further my career in fashion, how to connect and network with other gals that are like me and aspiring to do similar things in the industry, I was able to share my opinions on certain aspects of the magazine that I love (and they took me seriously so that of course was invigorating), and I had a fabulous lunch with two absolutely inspiring, inimitable, and empowering women that I was SO lucky to meet.

IMG_5668.JPG

After lunch we walked to the Hearst tower and started up the giant possibly-could-be-intimating-but-they-weren’t, stairs. And then took the elevator to the 30th floor of course. Very Devil Wears Prada moment, no doubt. At the arrival of the 30th, I was greeted by glass doors with the COSMOPOLITAN across it, and I knew I had arrived to my future home. Donna and Jen were so warm and friendly in showing my Mom and I around the Cosmo offices. I was able to see a sneak peak of next months issue!! But I pinky swore I would’t give any secrets out, so my lips are sealed. I also saw the beauty room, where I wanted to try ALL THE PRODUCTS! I saw the cubicles the gals worked in which were equally as decorated and fashionable as the girls themselves, I got to see Donna’s office-overlooking Central Park might I add, I saw Joanna Coles, Editor in Chief of Cosmo if you didn’t know, which included a desk with an attached treadmill. Clever, right? I saw the sex columnist’s desk which was complete with Cosmo condoms and, eh-hem, adult toys, I walked by Aya in a meeting and tried my hardest not to barge in and say “Hi can I have your job?”. But the best of all was, drumroll please…the fashion closet. How did you know? If you’ve ever dreamed of a closet stocked with the latest and greatest, then chances are you were having deju-vu of the Cosmo closet. The men of Jimmy Choo and Manolo Blahnik were in attendance, along with the lovely ladies of Chanel. All looked fabulous sitting on the shelves and hanging on the racks, and most all were marked with where they were to be born at, who was to where them, and more importantly what shoot they would be in. After the fashion closet, we had to part ways, but not after thanking Donna and Jen for the absolutely incredible out-of-body-experiance of an afternoon. After that, the afternoon was a blur because it was the best day, basically ever.

IMG_5670-0.JPG

After an afternoon at Cosmo, we geared up to attend an event with Express, hosted by Cosmo of course. The event was at the new store in Times Square, so of course it was a mad house. When I walked in I was greeted with fab clothes and even fabber (just made that word up, no shame) food and company. While mingling with Cosmo editors, we were able to taste tiny horderves, get flash tattoos, have a fashion drawing done of yourself, and of course meet all the amazing women around you! I was able to meet Joanna Coles (Editor in Chief of Cosmo), Aya Kanai (Cosmo’s Fashion Editor, who has previously been at Teen Vogue, Nylon magazine, and Shopbop.com), and so many more that were all so kind! After a few hours in my heels, my feet had bit the dust so it was time to call it a night. Almost.

IMG_5678.JPG

IMG_5688.JPG

After leaving Express, mom and I went back to the hotel for a change of clothes and headed to grab dinner at an Irish pub. Mind you, we didn’t know what we were walking into – Friday night Karoke. An older man in a suit, a lawyer, was celebrating his 10th year singing every Friday at the bar so naturally we sat back and listened to him. He was something, no doubt. And I did get up and bust a tune if you were wondering, Rappers Delight-only the greatest karaoke song ever.

After Friday night karaoke, we really did decide to call it a night.

And that’s just Part One.

What to Wear: Sorority Recruitment

As the summer is coming to a close and I must leave NY (sad face), I’m starting to get prepared to put on recruitment (HAPPY FACE)! I posted a guide last year on what to wear and also gave out some tips, so I wanted to do the same thing, but brush up on the clothing! (PS yes, I changed my blog name AGAIN-sorry for the whip-lash but I promise FLANCAKE is the final product!)

As many of you know, I’m a member of Zeta Tau Alpha at the University of Arkansas and I went through recruitment two whole years ago! I LOVED recruitment SO much-I met so many amazing girls in and out of the sorority I joined, it was such a great experience!
But thinking about what to wear can be kind of tricky, especially if you don’t know what to expect.
At the UofA, T-shirts are given to be worn every day except preference night (pref night-you wear a nice dress). The tricky part is deciding what to wear while looking classy, appropriate, and still showing off your own style! I’ve done the hard part (but fun for me!) and picked out some options that you can get or be inspired by!

First things first though-recruitment isn’t just about what you wear, so be sure that your clothes don’t over power your great personality! Below are some great tips I would give and some I’ve received.

Be sure to sit up straight when you’re talking to the girls, especially on the first few days so you give off a good impression! When you get more comfortable with the girls, it’s ok to lean in to hear what they’re saying.
Always pay attention to what the girl you’re talking to is saying! This should be a given-but it’s SUPER easy to get distracted because there will be so many girls in a tight space talking really loud.
Don’t just ask questions so it seems like your interested, ask questions that you really want to know the answer to! I thought I was asking dumb questions, but all the girls I talked to said they loved that I was curious so that’s a plus!
This should also be a given, but wear NATURAL makeup! Whatever you wear on a daily basis is YOUR natural-so if you wear barley any makeup, do that! If you wear a lot of foundation-do that! Wear makeup that you feel comfortable in. If you’re wearing way more than you normally wear or crazy colors, it will not only distract from the conversation, but it will probably make you nervous!
Keep your hair out of your face! I know that when I get nervous I tend to play with my hair, or tuck it behind my ears (weird, I know!) but you can prevent this by pulling it away from your face with a cute barrette or braid!
Trust me, it’s going to be really hot! So while you’re waiting for your parties outside, pull your hair up with a hair tie that doesn’t leave a mark!

So now you’ve kind of got an idea of what will happen, here’s a guide of what to wear!
I’ll never forget this advice-you aren’t dressing to impress boys, you’re dressing to impress your future sisters! So that means don’t wear the highest heels you’ve got for pref night or any other day for that matter.

This is what the schedule looks like:
Open Party Day-you’ll get a chance to meet a few girls in each house.
Philanthropy Day-You’ll learn about each sorority’s philanthropy.
House Tour Day-You’ll get to take a tour of the houses.
Preference Day-You choose which sorority you’d like to become a member of!
Bid Day-bids are given out-this is SUCH an exciting day!

For each day, you’ll want to wear a different pair of shorts/skirt since you won’t know the color of your shirts-you’re given them the day before you wear them. You definitely don’t have to wear a different pair of shoes everyday, but it is a good idea to have two pairs you can alternate with! I wore sandals when I went through recruitment, but I saw a lot of PNM’s (potential new member, that’s you!) wearing sandals and cute sneakers! Below are some of the items I saw that I would probably get if I were going through recruitment again-but again, all are just suggestions to help you get inspiration for your own style!

What to Wear: For Sorority Recruitment!

Happy Hump day everyone!

So, I’m starting to mentally prepare for school once again, and I was thinking about what I’m going to wear for recruitment! (we wear specific things since we’re putting on recruitment week!) But for the girls about to go through recruitment-here’s your guide! Also, this is a guide of what to expect for recruitment, so enjoy!

So as many of you know, I’m a member of Zeta Tau Alpha at the University of Arkansas, and I went through recruitment last year! I LOVE recruitment SO much-I met so many amazing girls in and out of the sorority I joined, it was such a great experience! Thinking about what to wear though can be kind of tricky!
At the UofA, tshirts are given out to be worn every day except preference night(pref night!-you wear a nice dress). The tricky part is deciding what to wear while looking classy, appropriate, and still showing off your own since of style! So I’ve compiled a few looks together to help you look your best!

First things first though-recruitment isn’t mainly about what you wear, so be sure that your clothes don’t over power your great personality!! Here are a few tips before I get into the clothes:

-Sit up straight in the chairs in the house(not only is this good posture, but sitting up straight will give you a sense of confidence!)
-Always pay attention to what the girl you’re talking to is saying! This should be a given-but it’s super easy to get distracted since there will be so many girls in a tight space!
-Don’t just ask questions so it seems like your interested, ask questions that you really want to know the answer to! Last year, I thought I was asking dumb questions, but all the girls I talked to said they loved that I was curious!
-This should also be a given, but wear NATURAL makeup! Whatever you wear on a daily basis is YOUR natural-so if you wear barley any makeup, do that! If you wear a lot of foundation-do that! Wear makeup that you feel comfortable in! If you’re wearing way more than you normally wear or crazy colors, it will not only distract from the conversation, but it will probably make you nervous!
-Keep your hair out of your face! I know that when I get nervous I tend to play with my hair, or tuck it behind my ears(weird, I know!) But you can prevent this by pulling it away from your face with a cute barrette or braid!
-Trust me, it’s going to be really hot! So while your waiting for your parties outside, pull your hair up with a hair tie that doesn’t leave a mark!

Ok, no that those tips are out there-here’s a guide of what to wear!
I’ll never forget this advice-you aren’t dressing to impress boys, you’re dressing to impress your future sisters! So that means don’t wear the highest heels you’ve got for pref night, and don’t pile the makeup on or make your hair too formal! For pref night this is all ok, but not for the other days!

Your go-to outfit starters:
Shorts and skirts! (and of course a dress for pref night!)

This is what the schedule looks like:
Open Party Day-you’ll get a chance to talk to some girls in the houses!
Philanthropy Day-You’ll learn about each sorority’s philanthropy!
House Tour Day-You’ll get to take a tour of the houses!
Preference Day-You choose which sorority you’d like to become a member of!
Bid Day-bids are given out-this is SUCH an exciting day!!

For each day, you’ll want to wear a different pair of shorts/skirt!
Since you won’t know the different colors of your shirts, you’re given them the day before you wear them! You’ll want to get a variety of styles/colors of shorts/skirts.

Here are some shorts that I thought were oh so cute!
There are so many different ways to style a pair of shorts-tuck in your shirt all the way tuck in in just the front, tie it in a knot-mix it up each day for some cool style!

This pair is from local store Riffraff! Image

From Urban Outfitters-these super cute striped scalloped shorts
Image

I LOVE these floral shorts from Nasty Gal
Image

I also love these frilled shorts, also from Nasty Gal
Image

And I’m in LOVE with these Lilly Pulitzer shorts
Image

And lastly for shorts, some shorts I wore for recruitment last year! From J. Crew
ImageImage

And now for the skirts!
I also love skirts for recruitment because I wear them so much-a skirt is just so girly to me!
Just make sure it isn’t too short, because when you sit down it will come up a few inches!
You can also mix up styling skirts with your tshirt-tuck it in half way or tie it up!

This one is from Urban Outfitters
Image

This adorable skirt is from an Australian online boutique, Sabo Skirt!

Image

Make a pretty floral statement with this pretty floral skirt from Nasty Gal!

Image

Also from Nasty Gal, I LOVE this silver glitter skirt! This one would be so perfect for House Tour or Philanthropy day!

Image

And last but not least, I think I’m going to have to get this dime piece from American Apparel! It’s just SO pretty!

Image

So now that you know what kind of shorts/skirts to look for, here’s what to look for in a pref dress! Something that is classy, something that isn’t too tight(NO body cons-remember, you’re impressing future sisters, not boys!!!!) And look for something that you’ll wear later on too! This doesn’t have to be some $534785495345 dress!!! Be reasonable 🙂

Here are some great one’s I found!

From RiffRaff this is a PERFECT Pref Dress that could be paired with some nude heels!
Image

This dotted dress, from Savoir Fair(Located in Fayetteville also!) would look so cute with some colored (not hight though!) heels!

Image

Also from Sabo Skirt, this dress is SO adorable, and would look great with nude pumps as well!
Image

From ASOS.com, this dress is so classic and cute!

Image

This dress is a bit on the pricey side, but it’s so classic and pretty that it could be worn many times over! This one is from Free People

Image

Now that we’ve covered shorts, skirts and dresses, let’s talk shoes!
You’re going to be doing a LOT of walking-trust me. So you’re going to want to wear really comfy shoes! I’m definitely not saying to go buy new shoes-but if you want to wear your favorite pair of sandals, polish them up a bit to make them look fresh! Also, there’s no need to wear a different pair of shoes every day, maybe wear 2 pair and alternate them every other day! What to look for: Sandals that have a back (how awkward would it be to fall because your shoe fell off!?) and sandals that AREN”T wedges and heels (really, you DON’T want to wear heels/wedges until pref night!). For pref night-just keep in mind the sisters not misters rule-keep the heel under or at 3 inches, because no one cares that you can walk in 5 inch heels because trust me-I’m sure they can too 🙂 (I hope that didn’t sound mean!)
Here are some examples thought of recruitment shoes for the week!
Maybe I’m biased, but I wore Steve Madden all week last year and my feet never hurt! So these are all from SteveMadden.com!

ImageImageImageImageImage

As I said for preference shoes-don’t go too high, and don’t make the outfit about the shoe-make it about yourself!
Look for classic pumps or wedges, anything that you’d be comfortable in!!

Now that we’ve talked about what to wear, here are some Do’s and Don’ts!

DO:

Be super positive! This will be one of the best weeks ever, I promise!
Talk about yourself-I know, it seems weird! But the other girls want to get to know you, and they only have a short time period to do so!
Wear your hair out of your face-this doesn’t mean up, it just means out of the way!
Make tons of new friends!!!
Think about what house YOU would like to become a part of-not what all your friends want to be a part of!
Rest at night because you will be SO tired!
Bring small snacks, oil blotters, lipgloss, bandaids, tampons, powder and a mini hairspray to put in your small bag that you’re allowed to carry!
Wear perfume!

DON’T:

Wear ripped up cut off’s, wear booty shorts (please don’t-we have to look up your shorts when you sit down!!), and wear skin tight dresses.
Talk about Boys, Booze, Parties, and other sorority houses!!
Talk about about what you think of other houses with your new friends, because that might be the house they end up wanting to become a part of! Just don’t.
Suck up!! There is a difference between being nice and trying to suck up, just be yourself!!
Say anything negative, the whole week. It will make your life SO much easier!
And lastly, don’t be discouraged if what you thought was your favorite house cuts you-I PROMISE that everything works out for a reason! You WILL end up in the right house! It’s funny how things have a way of working out!

That’s all for my What to Wear: For Recruitment guide! Slash guide to recruitment! If you have ANY questions at all, don’t hesitate to comment and ask! Recruitment really is the best thing I did when I went to college, and going greek has helped me meet SO many amazing girls and just become even more outgoing!! You’re going to LOVE it!

GO GREEK!

Monday blues be gone.

Happy Happy MONDAY everyone!

Yes yes, it is a Monday and I’m determined to make it a happy Monday!
Yesterday I had a lot of time to think, and I decided on something that I’m going to stick to!!
Having a healthier lifestyle, being happy with life and becoming self-confident/assured!

(to start off reading this, I suggest you listen to this fun song that’s one of my fans!

For my new healthy lifestyle, I’m going to A) Stop eating out as much B) Make my own food (oh lord help me…) C) eat more veggies!! and D) try to eat all natural!
So since I basically spelled out the alphabet, I’d like to elaborate. I REALLY need to stop eating out as much because first of all-a lot of places don’t tell you what goes in your food so you don’t even know what’s going in your body and that definitely freaks me out! Also eating out is SO expensive! Notice I never said fast-food though because I honestly don’t really like fast food! It for sure freaks me out! I’m going to start making my own food because going with what I just said-I’ll know exactly what goes in my food! And it’s always fun to spend a little extra time preparing food because it makes you appreciate it more. For eating more veggies, well this is pretty self explanatory. I’ll be honest, to me a veggie is Carrot Cake (IM KIDDING…) but I really do have to start eating better veggies other than just carrots! Lastly, I’m going to start eating all natural, non-processed food! This not only prevents nasty pesticides from going in my body, but it also hopefully prevents animal abuse if you buy from the right place.

On my mission to become happier, I’m basically going to surround myself with positive things! I’d say I’m genuinely a pretty happy person, but theres sometimes that I find myself complaining WAY to much or gossiping or just not listening enough-which has all got to GO!! I’m determined to be happier by NOT gossiping/complaining, and just by listening to what people have to say! If you stop for a minute and really listen, and not just hear-its amazing what inspiring and meaningful things different people have to say! Another thing I’m going to do to try and become happier is to meet more people! Friday I was approached while sitting along waiting on someone and they simply asked to sit with me. Of course I said yes, and we ended up having the same major and talking about life and just really awesome stuff! It was so cool to me that this girl was so comfortable going up to a stinger, which of course made me want to do the same! So now I’m making it my goal to talk to a strange, and REALLY talk, at least once a week if not every day!
I’m also going to of course surround myself with positive things-uplifting images, quotes, bible verses, anything that makes me smile!

Last but not least-I’m determined to make myself more self-confident and be comfortable with my own skin! I’ve always been pretty confident, but sometimes I find myself thinking-if only I could have skinnier legs or prettier eyes, when in reality, God made me who I am for a reason-just like he made everyone else for a reason! Now of course I work out almost everyday to keep my body healthy and fit, but I’m really going to work on appreciating myself more! Which is something I feel like EVERY one should do!

So now that all that is off my chest, I’d like to bring some attention to a trend I’ve noticed and it’s something I absolutely LOVE!!! And no, it’s not a fashion trend…but a beauty trend!! RED LIPS ARE BACK YA’LL!!! (and pink!)
Whenever I was younger I always wanted to wear red lips out and about, but I was always a tad scared…and I felt like they were to ‘formal’ or something! (I did however wear them to highschool one day…uh, talk about stares.) But I’ve noticed that red lips are being worn casual AND dressed up, by all ages! Talk about a revolution! Red lips really do go with anything, and I promise you-there’s a shade for every skin tone!!

First-the right way to put on red lips! I literally do this every time I wear a red lip-

63e5815a90bb99cbc4ef831037982df3

Next are some of my favorite red and pink lips, worn many different ways!

ea96caff1132a67eaefe1037848996ab 5bb823ff68914825d0796845f22c1bb8 0d9ddd7ba3547971edc990fc3c333502 50982781a567f47aa5847708c1f1e551 13e5416dbdb60dd15ec96f7bf53a1e2d eccf1b8aeb4cca91c37b5d1264b8f4c2 fbd31ad25ea36c1f1c83dea87d5d3724 65781ecdbb07e71b0ff0d2ae1e0d5e9b 549bba95d04760df7d896003e4b4b052 8f57c5418f3cf0632a15f86edd45aa9264dd8ba9c409cbdc937283f7fd87b96b 5e32d89a198acd30587e2ffd4e0aa702

As you can see, red really does work on everyone! However, let me give you some tips-

  • if your face is broken out around your lips, wait for a while before wearing a pink/red tinted lip. My dermo told me that there’s a pigment in pink/red lipstick and balms that makes breakouts become more inflamed AND of course (this is kind of obvious) look more noticeable! So just be a Patient Patricia and….wait!
  • as the first picture suggests, exfoliate!! There’s nothing worse than nasty, cracked flakey red lips. Luscious? I think more less-cious.
  • While colored clothing can look good with red (in example-color blocking with orange and pink and a red lip), try to either stick with solid clothing or clothing that has the same color scheme in patterns (black&white stripes, leopard print, houndstooth, lace…etc!)

My skin tone is fair with red undertones, so to balance this out I wear a red lip with blue undertones, to cancel out the red in my skin! My favorite red lip is by Aveda, in Cherrybud! (and a plus-it smells like Aveda products, which is really yummy mint!)
For all other skin tones, click this link to take you right where you need to be!
(here’s an example of my dark red lip!)

262810_3328925121189_1344667968_n

That’s all for this Monday!

I hope your Monday blues are LONG gone!! And I hope you can join me in trying to create a healthier lifestyle for yourself, being happier with yourself, and just being self assured and having self-confidance!

Last but not least-my inspirational quote of the day! I thought this one fit just perfectly with what I had to say today…
Have a marvelous Monday!! I hope to see more rep and pink lips soon 😉

College Fashion: What NOT to wear

Good evening readers!
So although Wednesday’s are designated to the latest trends and fashion I see on campus, I decided to do this Wednesday on the things NOT to wear on campus. -now, like I’ve said before-I’m so terribly sorry if I offend anyone, the things I post are just my opinion! With that said, let me share the latest findings:

Problem: Ankle Socks

Fix: Low-cut socks.

Where do I even begin. Guys AND girls seem to be wearing these sad, sad socks more lately, and I really don’t know why. I’ve seen the socks worn with Norts (nike shorts), leggings, short-shorts-you name it. Although I GUESS these socks are warmer for cold days, (ok, but are they really-probably not). Unless you’re an 80’s aerobic teacher or an NBA star, stick to regular low-cut socks. Save yourself.

Image

Problem: Oversized Shirts.

Fix: Regular sized shirts

Ok, now this isn’t the WORST of the things I see on campus (and I have had my fair share of wearing too-big tshirts), but there’s a fine line between a little big, and WAY OVERSIZED, like 5 SIZES TOO BIG!!!!! Ladies, if your boyfriend could wear it and it’s STILL too big-probably a no go. By too big, I mean wearing a tshirt that goes down to your knees. Thats just ridiculous.

Problem: The tshirt dress. Or “no-pants”

Fix: Put on some pants!

Going along with oversized shirts-wearing shirts as dresses. So obviously if your shirt is way huge, your bottoms are probably going to be covered. Now, if you decided to wear shorts with a huge tank top or tshirt well, maybe it’s time to make a better decision. I know for a fact that guys HATE seeing girls wear shirts that make it look like you aren’t wearing pants-because trust me, they probably really are wondering! (and not in a good kind of way either…) So if you absolutely MUST wear big shirts-just please don’t wear shorts also!

Image

Problem: Leggings with short shirts.

Fix: Real pants, or longer shirts.

Now leggings are kind of a love/hate with me. Leggings worn the right way means wearing a tunic, extra long shirt(NICE shirt), or a dress. NOT a crop tshirt, a sweatshirt that hits you at the hips-no. I know girls probably think that guys want to see their booths (which this is probably somewhat true-we are on a college campus), BUT I’m pretty sure they don’t want to see the junk in the front. No one does. SORRY NOT SORRY.

Image

Problem: Heels on campus.

Fix: uhhh maybe flats?

Heels on campus-if you are either A) a professor or B) a grad teacher/student, then this does not apply to you. However if you AREN’T one of the 2-keep reading. Now if you’ve ever thought about wearing actual heels on campus (I’m talking 3-4 inchers), then I applaud you-that means you’re wanting to dress cute!! BUT- I also want to stop you from embarrassing yourself! We’ve all seen that girl-walking in too-tall heels for too-long of a time. She starts to develop what I call the “backwards-flamingo walk”, because you know how flamingos have legs that are bent the opposite way of ours? When you walk in heels for a long time you get tired of walking at such a weird angle, so your body starts to compensate-by bending your legs and just walking SUPER strangely. So just take my advice, which is basically common sense-DO NOT wear heels to campus. And here’s a friendly tip-if you have to wear heels for a class presentation or something, just carry them in a bag. I promise you, walking for 15 minutes in heels is never worth it.

Image

Problem: Hygeine-or lack of.

Fix: Some time grooming, thats all!

Personal Presentation is probably the biggest mistake made on college campuses. Before I go on about this particular what-not-to-do, let me just start by being honest- I DEFINITELY do not look fab every single day of my life. However, I do brush my hair, wash my face, and brush my teeth. And wear clean clothes.  Sounds normal right?? You’d be surprised. I can’t even tell you how many people I saw today on campus that were literally wearing pajamas-at 12:30 in the afternoon. Some might say-oh, they had a 7am class so they didn’t have time to get ready. Ok, if you have time to physically get out of bed, you have time to change clothes. Here’s a friendly tip:set out your clothes the NIGHT BEFORE, so you don’t even have to use you brain in the morning, because I know I never want to. Another thing-if you aren’t into wearing makeup or doing your hair(I really am not), at least make it LOOK like you somewhat care about your appearance! Even if you don’t someone else might. Don’t you hate it when you’ve just worked out and your all nasty and of course you see a super cute guy looking at you? Ya, that’s what you might look like to guys if you don’t look somewhat presentable. Now I’m definitely not saying ‘flat iron your hair and cake on makeup EVERY DAY OR ELSE!!!”, but I am saying take a brush to your hair and put on some moisturizer. Bad hair day? Grab a cute headband or hat! Simple as that!

Now as I said before, I hope I didn’t offend anyone! If I did-I’m terribly sorry. BUT, lucky for you-I included fixes for all the college fashion mishaps! So, now the UofA should go back to looking FAB (a girl can dream…)

That’s all for now folks! Have a wonderful rest of the week! Happy Hump Day ya’ll!

College Fashion. Mens fashion-what to give your man advice about!

Good afternoon pretty ladies!(and handsome men…)

Today when I woke up, I was thinking about what I was going to wear for my boyfriend and I’s date night tonight! And then I got to wondering-what would HE be wearing?? So then I thought that I’d share with you some mens fashion that is oh-so-dapper. I always pay attention to what my boyfriend is wearing because he is one stylish dude, but I also like to see what all other guys are wearing too-to give him inspiration also!

Walking around campus I’ve noticed some trends for mens fashion-(sorry, but I didn’t pay any attention to the fratters-for new balance sneaks, tanks, and short-shorts are their uniform), but I did look around at everyone else that seemed to have style! This is what I noticed…

Everything slim cut!-slim jeans(NOT skinny), slim cut jackets, button-ups, etc.

Boots-casual boots, work boots, anything that looks rugged are what is in right now.

Now, granted mens fashion is slow to change, they always seem to be classic and put together-it really does change! For example, skinny ties just started becoming popular about 3 or 4 years ago! That was huge for mens fashion! And the slim cute jean also didn’t become popular or really acceptable until about 2 years ago.

So if you’re wondering-“how on earth am I going to get my guy to dress so great?? I don’t know what to tell him!” Well girls, it’s your lucky day! Below are some pictures that are basically mens fashion for dummies!

All you really have to do is say-hey! These would look great on you!! And voila-PERFECTION! Also, you might want to go shopping WITH your guy since that’s always fun. He’ll feel MUCH more confident in what he’s going to buy if you see it on him and shower him with complements! Really though.

So now that you’ve seen mens fashion outfit builders, I’ll show you some of my favorite mens fashion outfits!

So as you can tell, these are all fabulous. If you’d like more inspiration, check out my board on Pinterest-We like boys in cars. The pictures above all came from that board, and I’m always pinning new ones so go check it out if your little heart desires!

Last but not least, I’d like to share my boyfriends style for the day! His shirt and jeans are both Pacsun, his jacket-???, his shoes are from Target! (Tell your guy to go look for good clothes&shoes at Target-seriously SUCH great stuff at all even better prices!!)

I hope you enjoyed this post-because I know we probably all love a little mens fashion every now and then!

Have a fabulous day!!

College Fashion- Time for combat.

Happy Wednesday everyone!!

The week is HALFWAY OVER WOOOOOO!!!

As I was walking around on campus today, I was on a hunt to find the latest trend. First I looked at what my roommate was wearing, which was super cute. Then I looked at everyone else! What I came up with wasn’t actually surprising, since it’s been a trend for about 2 or 3 years in the US, but I feel like it’s just now getting popular! drumroll please….COMBAT BOOTS!! So I’m sure you’ll agree with me when saying this trend isn’t new, but it’s just now becoming a trend that EVERYONE feels comfortable wearing. Also, I’m going to start a new section every week called College Fashion-where I note something I’ve seen on campus recently, or just a trend that everyone’s rocking! And what better way to start off this section than with combat boots?

The thing I love about combat boots is that you can LITERALLY wear them with almost absolutely ANY outfit!! Dresses&skirts, shorts&pants are all great pairings for these lovely things. Some of my favorite ways to style these boots are:

Winter:

Tights/Leggings under Cut-off jean shorts, a big bulky sweater with an infinity scarf, hair in a topknot(see my tutorial video If you aren’t sure about how to create this!!), and a messenger bag.

Skinny jeans(I basically live in skinny jeans-if you ever see a post with reg jeans, chances are my blog has been hacked!), A big sweater or a henley with a super cool poncho over it, a scarf and a cool sweater.

Summer:

Cut-off shorts, a loose t-shirt(vintage band tees are always fun and unique!), tons of vintage(or just vintage-looking, for vintage can get pricey!) jewelry, messy hair

A circle skirt, a tight tank or shirt with the back cut out, and cool accessories.

Also-combat boots are always fun with some leather, lace, or leather and lace!! Or mix it up with something unexpected-like a really pretty pale pink flowy dress with some dark brown combat boots-the combo is totally sassy and unique. You’ll definitely get some envious stares.

So basically you can wear whatever you want, however you want to with combat boots. They’re literally a gift from heaven. Below, I’ve posted some of my favorite looks and favorite boots!

Something that is really popular right now in combat boot world is metal toes and studs!! I love both of these trends, especially the studs!! Here’s my roomies boots!

From The Elle in Mena, AR-the Steve Madden Troopa! Basically the only combat boot you’ll ever need! (click the picture for the link to their site!)

From Masons boutique in Fayetteville, Ar-a fun twist on combat boots-with some added tweed! These are seriously so cute, especially with a pretty brown sweater!! (click the picture for the link to their site!)

College Fashion. Lover’s Style

Maybe it’s because he’s my boyfriend, but I am just OBSESSED with his style! Always looking awfully dapper in euro suits and skinny ties(my favorite for mens style!)  Some of his style secrets include(like i literally just said…) Skinny ties, euro suits, grey, black , red, ray bans, and his sly smirk. And always being romantic helps with looking smooth also.
